The Vaping Dilemma
Vaping in the UK is only viewed in proportion to the immense harms of smoking. The explosion of recreational vaping in non-smokers, particularly young adults, is overlooked. The growth of recreational vaping is not accidental and needs separate consideration from the needs of smokers.
We want to detach vaping from smoking and stimulate a fresh debate and action to prevent the deliberate creation of a new product sector which packages nicotine in vapes, pouches and snus as a lifestyle product for recreational use by young people.
Watch the film
In his compelling short film Joe Woof brings the voices of young people into the vaping debate and exposes the deliberate addiction techniques used by industry to embed vapes a lifestyle product for recreational use with young people.
He also explores some of the misinformation about vaping safety, which are currently, and in many ways understandably, anchored only to the immense harms of smoking.
The qualitative research with 30 young adults, together with references and rationale for the film and its content is available below. The film and this document were the outputs of his Master’s Dissertation in Science Communication from UCL.
